Our client: The client first became aware of Modus Vivendi & Modus Cinemas via our social media channels, and contacted us after being impressed with our portfolio of previous work.

The Brief: During the process of purchasing a new build barn conversion, the client wanted us to look at several items across the property, including the space they intended to turn into a dedicated cinema room. The client requested a few key elements for the room, including seating for at least 8 people, a bar at the rear, full cinema seating and a Starscape ceiling. They had also seen fabric panel designs from another project of ours, which they loved, and wanted to replicate for the front and rear walls of their cinema room. As they are both very busy people, they were looking for a full turnkey solution, including all building, joinery and decorating works.

Our solution: Once we had begun the design process, we realised that due to the height of some of the family members and the standard ceiling height of the room, there were multiple design and detail aspects that we needed to consider in order to accommodate their seating requirements. Due to the client wanting Starscape fibre optic panels, and the ceiling dropped around the edge to create a light coffer, we had to engineer the rear stage to an optimum height to ensure that anyone sat in the back row could see above people in the front row, with clear and full sight of the projector screen.

During the project, the client was considering purchasing a movie server, but wasn’t entirely convinced. Upon completion, we loaned the client a Kaleidescape movie server to test, and after a week or so, the client loved the equipment and decided he needed one for himself, which we then supplied and integrated with the rest of the system.

Overall, the client was very happy with our services and was very impressed with the finished room. The family get so much use out of it, including during the hot summer months, that they installed air conditioning to ensure the room can be used all year round!
